Lakers move to 2–0 in Summer League
LAS VEGAS— The Lakers have moved to 2-0 in the 2K24 Las Vegas Summer League after a 93-75 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
After a closely contested first half, the Lakers took charge in the second half, outscoring the Charlotte Hornets 54-35. The Lakers converted 39.1% of their three-point attempts and 45.3% of their shots from the field, while the Hornets struggled with a 25% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc and a team average of 30.9%.
Undrafted rookie Colin Castleton continued his solid Summer League play with a hot 10-point, 4-for-4 start to the game.
Castleton finished with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds, with a 61.5% shooting percentage on 8-for-13.
With a hot scoring spurt throughout the summer league, sophomore Max Christie cooled down with a 30% showing from the floor but showed a stellar presence on defense with four blocks.
Christie finished with 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds on just 3-for-10 shooting from the field.
Rookies Jalen Hood-Schifino and D’moi Hodge showcased valuable range in Sunday’s win, with both rookies scoring over 15 points in the starting unit.
Hood-Schifino displayed beautiful court vision and point guard control off the pick and roll with multiple passes that resulted in an assisted bucket from the 20-year-old.
Hood-Schifino finished with 15 points, five assists, three rebounds, and a block on 2-for-2 shooting from three and 5-for-10, 50%, total from the floor.
Hodge delivered a 3-and-D presence to the backcourt with two blocks and a steal while shooting 2-for-6 from deep.
Hodge finished second in scoring with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists in 25 minutes.
After Sunday’s win, Hodge said he models his game after former Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Rookie Maxwell Lewis flashed promising three-level scoring with 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists while shooting 2-for-2 from three and 5-for-9 from the field.
Rookie Maxwell Lewis showcased a promising ability to score at all three levels, posting 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Lewis displayed excellent shooting percentage, going a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and converting 5-of-9 field goal attempts for 55.5%.
The Lakers will have a two-day break before their next matchup on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
