Long Beach State beats UC Davis for fourth straight win.
LONG BEACH — Long Beach State won their fourth straight game on Saturday, beating UC Davis 75–72 in a back-and-forth nail-biter behind a 21-point game from Marcus Tsohonis.
Despite committing 17 turnovers and shooting just 22% (4-for-18) from three, Long Beach State’s second-half push helped secure their fourth straight win. The key factors in The Beach's victory were defense and second chance points, scoring 15 second chance points and locking in on the final possession to hold UC Davis from hitting a three to tie the game.
“We won that game with our defense,” said head coach Dan Monson.
With leading scorer Joel Murray out for the season due to a wrist injury, Long Beach State looked to junior Marcus Tsohonis, who scored a team high 21 points on 50% shooting from the floor, adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 32 minutes.
“Winning and picking up games is going to boost everyone's confidence,” said Marcus Tsohonis.
Tsohonis is Beach State’s second-leading scorer, averaging 14.3 points per game.
Sophomore forward Lassina Traore was the unsung hero in Long Beach State's win over the Aggies, putting up 15 points and 15 rebounds while creating numerous second-chance opportunities for The Beach.
Long Beach State’s next matchup comes this Thursday on the road against Cal State Fullerton at 7 PM on ESPN+.
