Rams fall to Buccaneers late in the 4th.
The Rams lost their second straight game after their bye week, falling to the Buccaneers 16–13 after a late-game touchdown drive by Tom Brady, dropping their season record to 3–5.
“This is not good enough, and I have to do better. I’m a huge part of this,” said coach Sean McVay.
With under two minutes to go, the Rams were able to stop Tom Brady and the Bucs' offense in the red zone, turning the ball over on downs after a great coverage stop on 4th and goal with the score at 13–9.
All the Rams had to do was take up as much time as possible and get a first down to win the game. The Buccaneers' defense forced the Rams to go three and out and get the ball back with 44 seconds left. Then Tom Brady happened.
“The defense should not have had to go back on the field,” said Jalen Ramsey on the final drive.
With 44 seconds left, Brady put together a game-winning drive, something he has done countless times in his 23-year career. The Buccaneers were fortunate enough to get the help of a pass interference call in the endzone on Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick, setting up a first-and-goal at the Rams' one-yard line.
The Bucs scored a touchdown pass on the next play to tight end Cade Otton with 9 seconds left to cap off a 60-yard game-winning drive, giving the Rams their fifth loss of the season.
Matthew Stafford finished his second straight game with under 200 yards throwing for the Rams' offense, completing just 48% (13-for-28) of his passes for 165 yards.
Cooper Kupp was the Rams' lone bright spot, catching 8 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown, averaging 16 yards a catch with his longest going for a 69-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
The Rams’ next matchup will be on the road next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at 1:25 PM PDT on FOX.
