USA moves to 2–0 in World Cup after win over Greece
Manila, Philippines — The USA Men’s National Basketball Team moved to 2-0 and qualified for the second round of the FIBA World Cup after defeating Greece 109-81 in their second matchup in the Group C stage on Monday.
The Americans were led by Lakers rising prospect Austin Reaves in their needed win over Greece, scoring a team-high 15 points, adding six assists and five rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
After a 23-19 end to the first quarter, the scoring deficit began to separate by a wide margin in the second quarter, as the U.S. outscored Greece 86-62 throughout.
The U.S. constantly found their way to the whistle, drawing fouls, going 30-for-34, 88%, from the free throw line.
Starters Anthony Edwards and Jalen Brunson finished second in scoring for the Americans with 13 points apiece.
The U.S. now stands at the top of Group C, one point ahead of their nearest opponent, and looks to the second round after their next opponent, Jordan, on August 30th.
