Lakers sign Christian Wood to two-year, $5.7M deal

Los Angeles — The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a two-year, $5.7 million deal with free agent big man Christian Wood on Tuesday.

At 6'9 with a 7'3 wingspan and the ability to stretch the floor as a career 37.9% three-point shooter, Wood gives the Lakers more versatility to plug in with Anthony Davis on the floor with his ability to play both power forward and center.

In 67 games last season for the Dallas Mavericks, Wood averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 37% from behind the arc and 51% overall from the field.

The Lakers’ roster has now reached 14 players with the arrival of Wood, a number likely to remain unchanged. This is mainly due to the possibility of a future trade or addition from the buyout market. Also, don’t count out the team’s rookie two-way contract players Colin Castleton, D’Moi Hodge, and Alex Fudge, who can transition between the G-League and the NBA on any given night.

The signing of Wood is a significant addition that raises their stock, and is a dream come true for Wood himself.

Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Wood took to Twitter/X to express that donning the purple and gold has always been his lifelong dream.
