Dodgers reach franchise record 107 wins.
After their 1–0 win over the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers set a franchise record for most wins in a season, surpassing their previous record of 106 games, by winning their 107th win tonight with seven games left in the season to keep that record climbing.
“For us to have that title, no one can take that away from us. 107 wins is a heck of a job for all of us. It’s something to be proud of,” manager Dave Roberts said.
The Dodgers were able to keep the Padres to a shutout night thanks to the masterful class performance from Julio Urías, who finished with five strikeouts in six scoreless innings for the blue. Urías is 3rd in the majors in earned run average, with an ERA of 2.17 behind Justin Verlander (1.80) and Dylan Cease (2.06).
Thanks to a Freddie Freeman blooper hit in the 10th to bring in the winning run, the Dodgers were able to even their series with the Padres with the help of Tommy Kahnle, who earned the save and clinched win number 107 into Dodgers history!
“That’s a lot of wins if you really think about it,” Freeman said. “A lot of good things have to happen from a lot of guys — not just 26 guys, it has to be 40 to 45 guys that had to contribute to be able to do that. Our pitching has been absolutely phenomenal all season long. They give us a chance. We haven’t really done well with runners in scoring position the last couple of days, and they put up zeroes all day until we got one in.”
“Pitching has been incredible, and pitching is the reason you win that many games and championships, and we’ve been doing it all year,” Freeman added.
After beating the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, the Dodgers secured the top spot in the National League (also tying their then franchise-record 106 wins), making the road to the World Series in the National League have to go through Chavez Ravine!
“It’s super important,” catcher Will Smith said. “Getting home-field advantage, we missed it last year and it probably wore us down a little bit. It’ll be nice this year to have home-field advantage.”
This is the third consecutive season the Dodgers have achieved 106 wins (or more), having previously surpassed it in the 2019 and 2021 seasons with 106 victories apiece.
