Rams fall to Cardinals in 3rd straight loss.
The Rams lost their third straight game this Sunday, falling to their division rival Arizona Cardinals, 27–17, dropping their season record to three games below .500 at 3–6.
“Not a lot of positives that you can take away from this. It’s tough, it stings,” said Sean McVay.
With Matthew Stafford out with a concussion, the Rams entrusted the offense to 27-year-old John Wolford. The Cardinals were also without their star quarterback, Kyler Murray, due to a hamstring injury.
The Rams had trouble scoring in the first half of Sunday’s loss, scoring just 3 points. The Rams' defense also struggled, having no answer for the Cardinals' offense, with Colt McCoy giving them a 17–3 halftime lead.
The Rams were able to get within a one-score game after a Darrell Henderson 5-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter.
The Rams' offense was never able to catch up to the Cardinals' next score from running back John Conner, putting an exclamation point late in the 4th to give them a 24–10 two-score lead and eventually put the game to bed.
“Each week that we come out here and we keep not getting the job done, time is going by,” linebacker Ernest Jones said. “We got to change it now and get it together.”
To make matters worse in the loss, Cooper Kupp fell hard in pain at the start of the fourth quarter after getting his right ankle hit in a sideline catch attempt, rolling on the floor in pain after getting his ankle pinned to the floor mid-air by Cardinals Marco Wilson.
Kupp grabbed his right knee immediately and was carted off the field, where he remained out for the rest of the game.
“It didn’t look good,” McVay said when asked for an update on Kupp, “It didn’t sound good.”
The Rams’ next matchup will be on the road next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints at 10:00 AM EST on FOX.
