Lakers bring back Dennis Schröder on one-year deal.
The Lakers are finalizing a deal to bring back point guard Dennis Schröder on a one-year contract worth $2.64 million. Scröder last played a full season for the Lakers in the 2020–21 season, where he averaged 18.9 points a game.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dennis back to the Lakers. Not only do Dennis and Coach Ham share a player-coach history together, but they also reflect one another’s mentality of toughness with an extremely competitive edge,” Rob Pelinka said, later explaining the type of depth and defense he adds to this Laters team.
“Dennis will add both depth and an on-ball defensive presence to our core at the guard position. He is also a proven scorer and playmaker.” Pelinka added.
Back in 2020, Schröder denied a whopping mid-season deal that was estimated to be around $80 million, to only sign worth $5.9 million the next off-season with the Boston Celtics.
Last season, Schröder played for the Celtics, where he averaged 14.4 points a game, later being traded in the middle of the season to the Houston Rockets in a package that involved center Daniel Theis. In 15 games for the Rockets, Schröder averaged 10.9 points and 5.9 assists a game.
LeBron’s reaction to the Dennis Schröder signing was all praise, showing just how hyped he was on Instagram with a story post over Dennis Schröder's caption that he was coming back to L.A.
With the signing of Dennis Schröder, it looks as though the tenure of Russell Westbrook is all but determined toward a break in L.A, with the Lakers adding more depth at the point guard position and multiple rumors tied to the Lakers having talks with the Jazz and Pacers about a deal.
For now, the coaches are adamant to the public about keeping Westbrook because it's the right thing to say, but everyone knows there is a future trade in the midst.
