Rams survive to secure their first win of the season.
Coming off a super bowl hangover loss to the Buffalo Bills on Kick-Off night, the Rams bounced back with a dramatic win over the Atlanta Falcons to prevent an 0–2 start to the season, securing a 31–27 win thanks to a game-sealing interception from all-pro corner Jalen Ramsey, after nearly blowing a 28–3 lead in the 3rd quarter.
After a not-so-great start in Week 1, Matt Stafford had himself a solid outing for the Rams offense outside of his two interceptions. Passing for 272 yards and throwing three touchdowns, Stafford showed command of the offense, completing 75% of his passes (29-for-36).
Rams all-pro wideout Cooper Kupp continued his stellar start to the season with another game scoring a touchdown, his 8th straight since last season (longest streak in the NFL). Kupp finished with 11 catches for 108 yards (9.8 AVG) and two touchdowns in their win over the Falcons.
Kupp is 1st in the NFL with 24 catches, 3rd in the NFL with 236 receiving yards, and tied for 1st with three touchdowns in the first two games of the season.
After a rough opening drive, giving up a solid series to Falcons QB Marcus Mariota and their offense, the Rams' defense was bailed out by a bad miss from Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo.
The Rams answered back with a solid drive of their own, capitalizing on the Falcons' miss with a goal line back shoulder fade to Allen Robinson to give them an early 7–0 lead.
In the next series, the Rams’ defense came up with a needed interception that was called back due to a pass interference call from all-pro corner Jalen Ramsey who was beaten on a stutter move.
The Rams defense was able to stop the Falcons at midfield on 4 and 2 to set up an 8-yard touchdown run from Darrell Henderson, getting his first touchdown of the season.
After an interception thrown by Matt Stafford, the Rams defense was able to give the offense the ball back with a takeaway of their own, with a 51-yard interception return from Decobie Durant to set up a three-yard touchdown to Cooper Kupp before the half.
Cooper Kupp was able to secure his 2nd touchdown of the day with a flat route out of the backfield to give the Rams a 28–3 lead early in the 3rd quarter.
After battling back and forth, the Falcons built momentum off of a blocked scoop and score punt to make it a six-point game after a two-point conversion from Marcus Mariota to Drake London with four mins to go.
To make things more worrisome for all Rams fans at home, the Falcons were able to recover an on-side kick and get their offense back on the field to take the lead, with all the momentum on Atlanta’s side.
When they needed their big-money players most, they came to their rescue! Jalen Ramsey came up huge with a game-sealing pick off of Mariota on 3rd and 13 with a Moss-like interception over Falcons receiver Bryan Edwards to give them their first win of the season.
The Rams’ next matchup will be on the road as they look to build off of their win into next week against the Arizona Cardinals at 1:25 PM PDT on FOX.
